ML 350 G3 "No SCSI boot Device Found"

there are no drives detected after the SA 641 controller scan even though I have 4 hdd in a raid 5 configuration.

This is a brand new box. Please tell me what am I missing.

Andrew:

You need to set the boot order in the bios. When the system POST's go into the RBSU and make sure the 641 is selected as the first boot device.

I'm assuming you mean the SA 641 needs to be first under the Boot Controller Order choice (which it is) and not under the Standard Boot Order choice (CD, hdd, a:, etc.).

I checked that and confirmed the SA 641 is first. Is there anything else to check?

Hi Andrew,

So, could you confirm the following:
1. You are running the latest system ROM BIOS.
2. You are running the latest FW for the SA641 Controller.
3. Could you try loading the driver for the SA641 controller or make sure that the right driver is in use.

Could you also specify which OS are you using.

Proliant System BIOS - D14 (02/24/2004)
Intel Boot Agent version 3.0.05
PXE 2.0 Build 078 (WFM 2.0), RPL v2.73
HP Ultra3 BIOS 3.02.3
ROM Configuration for Array - version 2.30

From what I can find, everything is up to date. As far as the OS, there is none, yet. I'm trying to install Linux (SuSE Enterprise Server 8). While it's booting I get the errors: No SCSI boot device found. No SCSI BIOS installed. Then if I run the SuSE installer it can find no hard disk drives.

Andrew,

I believe that just like Windows 2000 etc. you may require the Suse driver for the Smart Array 641 or the attached disks won't be seen when you try to install the O/S.

Here is a link to the 641 driver for Suse Enterprise Server 7 (Should work for 8).

Also, your BIOS is not the latest. There are a number of newer drivers/firmware at the following link.

well, I tried installing the driver for SLES7 and it doesn't work. I downloaded the archive, extracted, then used rawrite to copy it to a floppy.

Hitting the alt key while the installer is starting allows you load modules, but after linux has booted it still cannot see the hdd.

very frustrating.

hi,
have you configured your array properly? ( go to ACU /RBSU and check wether the array volume is displayed or not on your 641 array controller). if it is configured properly , you please search for latest module of 641 for your SuSE version ( you can search from rpmfind.net or other sites for it).
