Hi Andrew

I think you should consult the compatibility hardware list of the windows 2003 to verify that the whoole system end its component are supported.

Make a great day.

Luca

Hi Andrew,

I would try to install manuall the OS, I had a similarly problem with a dl380.
You need the newest SmartArray driver from the web on a floppy. Hit F6 during the installation and add the SmartArray driver from the floppy.

andreas

I also don't seem to be able to enter the BIOS. I have heard that if the wrong OS is listed that that can cause this sort of behaviour. I don't get a prompt to enter BIOS or even F10 to enter the system partition utilities.

I see this exact behaviour on two DL360 I am trying to build with W2K3

Did the unit have a previous install with the SmartStart CD? That is where the OS selection comes from.
Try starting with clean hard drives. Do a manual install, supply your own drivers from download. Do not use the SmartStart CD

Hi Andrew,

I personally would try my best to perform a Smart Start assisted OS install.

So, are you using SS7? If so, start fresh by first running the SYSTEM ERASE utility from the smart start CD.

Reboot the server and look for "F9 to enter RBSU" here you should be able to find the OS selection part under "Advanced" menu. Select Windows 2003.

Continue with the OS install. If this doesn't work, then your next step would be to download the SA driver on a floppy, install Win2k3 manually and loading the SA driver at the "F6 to load drivers" part.

See how you go with this,

Regards,
No additional drivers are required. The ones on the Windows 2003 CD are fine.
What you need to do is use an old Smart Start CD v5.X, then carry out a manual installation selecting Windows 2000 as your operating system. Allow the server to carry out all its usual tasks like creating the system partition and configure the array before inserting the 2003 CD when asked for operating system CD.

Good luck

You do not need to press F6, Windows 2003 has native support for the Integrted Smart Array Controller. If it gets stuck at the point where its trying to load windows, it is probably the os selection in the system Configuration; it should be set to Windows 2000, do not select other.

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html
I found this old post and thought I would add my solution. I have a DL360 G1 that I had loaded SmartStart 5.5 on and then Server 2000. I wanted to upgrade to Server 2003. The automatic setup option on SmartStart 5.5 only allows as far up as Server 2000.

Tried version 7.5.1 of SmartStart. Got the "Not supported on this server" message. Tried SmartStart 5.5 again. Cleared the settings to start over.

But now I tried with the manual option. Make sure you just don't gloss over the HW array setup. I did this and then realized that my 2 SCSI drives were setup outside the array like 2 normal HDDs. Then I had to wipe it again, go back to the manual again, then setup the array with striping as I had it setup before.

Select Windows 2000 as the OS, which really doesn't matter, but you have to select something. When it gets to the OS install, you put in the Server 2003 disks and install like you would as normal. Works like a charm. I am up and running now with Server 2003 and RAID 0. W00t!

Oh, and no F6 needed for the "3rd party SCSI/Array driver" to complete the install of the OS. Like was said above, Server 2003 has enough SW to cover what is needed in our old Proliant DL360s. I haven't had any trouble yet.

If I do I shall post that later.;-)
