Thanks John, I already have the pdf. Maybe I should introduce myself. My first contact with PCs was in 1985, when we latched some Zenith PC-XT on to the communications processor for which I was tech support.
This is my first question, and as yet haven't figured out where the points are done, but I'll get there.
What I was looking for was BIOS setup info and anything else that may need configuring.
The old board is dead.

Neil
Hi everyone,

I am tasked with repacing the system board p/n 241485-001 (my first with a Compaq server). Can anyone offer tips/warnings.
I will award points. Thanks

Neil
Neil:

The replacement of the system board is fairly easy.

Tip: Buy yourself a ground strap. You can eaisly short out the board by just touching it if you are not properly grounded to the unit.

Tip: work slowly and carefully. Do not rush or you could miss something important. (the steps for replacing the board are carefully layed out in the manual below)

Tip: Post any trouble you have here in the forums. many of us have years of experience and we will gladly share it with you.

Here is the manual for the 330 G2:
http://h200001.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/UCR/SupportManual/TPM_234832-003_rev3_us/TPM_234832-003_rev3_us.pdf
page 53 is where the board diagram shows what screws and such are to remove it. You should read this manual almost page for page beginning in Chapter Two. (as you will have to perform most of the steps in it to replace the board and all the system components)

I wish you success in doing this. Let us know if you need anything else?
-john

Neil:

Almost forgot, you will likely have to set the system options in the RBSU when you are done. Not a biggie but you should get familiar with the RBSU:
http://h200001.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/UCR/SupportManual/TPM_234833-001/TPM_234833-001.pdf#page=88

Neil:

Points are not a problem. hehe

I am sorry if I stated my reply to your post as if you had no experience with hardware. I made that assumption and I am sorry.
As for bios, the new board should be "up to date" (November 2003), but if it isn't, Click here and you can get the latest:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19838.html

John,
Thanks for very quick response.
Sorry about the time overlap - you to me, me to you.

It's all over now, went like a dream, as it always does when you prepare for all possibilities (except the heatsink on the processor took a chunk out of my finger, didn't expect that inside a Compaq).

Cheers,

Neil
