I took your original post as saying to change the IRQ on the 6I but with your clarification I changed the IRQ on the NIC and it works fine. Though I find this fix to be odd especially with HP not knowing about it. Either way I appreciate your help.

Thanks again,

Sean
DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

I have a DL380 G4 which we are testing our SOE with. I am using RIS to deploy the image, and after resolving the reboot problem (where the Smart Array 6i controller had the incorrect IRQ setting), I am now able to boot and get the RIS menu screens up. However, after loading the PXE boot strap, I now get a error stating:

"Setup did not find any hard disks drives installed on your computer...etc"

I am suspecting it is the 6i Controller drivers not be loaded correctly. I have downloaded the latest drivers and put those in the correct dir's. Has anyone come across this problem...what am I missing?

Also, is there an updated firmware for the Controller card yet, I could not seem to find one?

Cheers

RDP means ??

SOE - Standard Operating Environment
RIS - Remote Installer Service, This is what is used to deploy Operating sysyems using PXE boot and Windows Server 2000\2003.

When I intially had the IRQ driver problem, downloading and installing the latest driver DID NOT help until I read in these forums that the IRQ had to be manually changed, which I did and aleviated that problem. However, now that I boot using PXE boot and get as far as loading the intial boot drivers, I get the message saying that no disks were found, even though the arrays have been created..

It seems to me that it is not loading the driver correctly. I am wondering if the 6i Controller needs a firmware update. Do you know if any are available for download?

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated

Hi Anders

Nope, the RIS server we have is a Win 2000 version.

Make sure that you REMOVE the line, not only comment out the cpqcissm.dll line from the txtsetup.oem file. I tried commenting it out but found out later that you have you actually have to remove the complete line for it to work properly.

If you use the above procedure, be sure to add most up to date above mentioned DLL into you the \$oem$\$$\OEMDIR\ Directory, and restart the BINL service for the changes to take effect..

Hope this helps

I have a DL380 G4 that I can not get a RIS screen to come up. Everytime I do a PXE boot I get the DHCP address just fine but when I hit F12 to start the RIS the screen is black for a couple seconds then it reboots. I had another problem with a hang during the reboot process that has been since resolved but I still have the same problems with RIS...any thoughts. This thread sounds similar to my problem but changing the IRQ from the default of '5' to the only other value of '7' doesn't seem to have fixed my issue. Is there something else I need to do or did I miss read? Any help would be appreciated since I can't deploy this server until I get this fixed since our server deployment policy is based on using RIS.

Thanks in advance,

Sean
Sean

Make sure you change the IRQ on the 1st NIC ONLY and that both NIC's have have been patched into the LAN.

When I first changed the NIC the settings for some strange reason it did not take. I had to do it a second time...

Also, make sure there are NO other devices that have the same IRQ. The only solution that has worked for me and others is this resolution. After that guess HP support is a phone call away, although when I did call them here in Australia they were not aware of the IRQ fix...

Also, make sure the BIOS is the most up to date..

Hope you get there!

I was finally able to get it to work for W2003 on our DL380 G4 by adding this line to txtsetup.sif file on the RIS image, in the [HardwareIdsDatabase] section. I got my clue from this:

http://wug.lutteman.se/articles/ris-add-storage.htm#Compaq_Smart_Array_53xx-series_using_TXTSETUP.SIF
