I installed SIM 4.2 this weekend, and pushed out the iLO 1.64 update to all 8 servers. All of them worked, except for one.

I get the following error:

- the component will be updated to the new version

Error: Could not Install CPQIFSD.SYS Kernel Driver (errcode=8)

The operation was not successful.

This happens from SIM, and when I connect to the Version Control Management web page and click on the icon to install the iLO update, it also fails.

Any ideas? I'm sure I can run the iLO update from the ILO web page, but I'm wondering why the automated method is broke.

The server is a DL360 G2, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, with PSP 7.10.

I also found this error in the system log on the affected server:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 12/13/2004
Time: 7:45:12 AM
User: N/A
Description:
The Compaq iLO Flash Support Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

Does anyone know what file it needs and how I can re-install it? Reinstall the PSP?
This may sound obvious but have you rebooted?
Sometimes with Support Paq and firmware updates they cannot be performed all at once. Couple of reboot's may be required.

I had the same problem, finally I updated the firmware with the standard - booted from floppy - method. You need a USB floppy drive or HP key to do this.

regards,
Akos

You can also try to update it from the iLO web page. It is simple and it works also. You have to download the firmware from HP, expand the image to a local folder, then in the web navigate to Administration/Upgrade iLO Firmware page. Browse to the expanded image, select it and click "Send firmware image".

regards,
Akos

Yes! Thank you Akos,

Derek, go to this URL:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/lights-out/us/download/22753.html

And download the IMAGE
Unpack it to a temporary folder, so that the ILO75.BIN file is there.

Use the "Upgrade iLO firmware" option in the iLO board webpage, and select that bin file.

Off you go!

yes I know I can do the image update, but that's not a good answer. I can't push out an image with SIM. It should work using the online method and I want to fix that problem.

Thanks for the input though.
