How does one get SLES 9 SP1? It's referred to in RDP 2.0, but I just bought SLES 9 (through HP) and havent' received any SP1 disks. And I can't find it on portal.suse.com, either.

Craig Jackson

Hi

I tried installing Suse 9 SLES on an BL30p server but once it tries to start, it just hangs in the formatting hard disk in the GUI.

However, I just installed it on a BL20p blade
in the same chassis.

has anybody ever seen this issue, its weird.

Hi,

i have not tried to install SLES 9 on Proliant BL servers (only on DL 360 G3 and G4, no problems), but maybe a few helpful links:

HP ProLiant Linux Server Certification Matrix

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hpLinuxcert-novell.html

HP ProLiant BL30p server

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/bl30p-drivers-cert.html

Installing SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 on ProLiant servers HOWTO

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/Linux/sles9install.pdf

Also make sure that you have the latest System ROM (version 4.04 I10-01/27/2005) and ILO Firmware ( version 1.70 A, 16 Feb 05) installed.

Firmware and Drivers for BL30P and SLES 9:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/1110_5836.html

Have you tried to install SLES 9 with Service Pack 1 (booting from the SP1 CD)?

Regards,

Kai-Uwe

I installed it on a bl20p with the 36GB disks and all went ok..

It hangs at the formatting disk portion
just before the installation begins. Has anybody seen this.

we got the cd from HP. all 6 of them SUsE 9.
SLES.

Have you tried it with SLES 9 SP1 and the latest firmware patches i mentioned in my first answer?

As said before, Updates and Service Packs for SLES are available at http://portal.suse.com
You should have received a registration code with your SLES CD's. Register this in the portal and then you could download and burn the ISO-images for SP1.

Kai-Uwe
