Hi:
I have a used DL380 G1 originally with dual 733MHz CPUs. I bought a pair of 1GHz CPUs, VRMs, and a Compaq 92mm 110 CFM CPU Fan (216472-001) from eBay. The server unexpectedly restarts when both 1GHz CPUs are installed. But, it works when a pair of 733MHz CPUs and original VRMs are installed.

What does the Thermal Upgrade Kit (210818-B21) come with?
Do I miss anything for this upgrade?

Any comment is welcome. Thank you in advanced.

when you run over Upgrade for 1GHZ you need Specific System Board

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/showphoto?partnumber=224928-001

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/showphoto?partnumber=224927-001

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/showphoto?partnumber=230270-001

210818-B21 only for DL380

you need
Pentium III P1000-256KB Processor Option Kit 210642-B21

When upgrading 550 MHz, 800 MHz, 866 MHz, 933 MHz Models to a 1.0 GHz Model, the Compaq ProLiant DL360 P1000 Upgrade Kit is required.
If the server has the incorrect board assembly, the upgrade kit must be purchased (Compaq part number 225352-B21) which contains the proper system board and fan.
The only thing, besides documentation and packaging, which comes with the thermal upgrade kit is the 92MM, 110CFM fan.

When the machine restarts are there any errors prior to it or does it just act as if the power has been unplugged, then plugged back in?

The vrms or ppms being used with the 733 Mhz cpus should work with the 1 Ghz cpus. I'd try using those with the 1 Ghz and monitor the server.

Thanks everyone for the replies. To KOV, my system is a DL380 and not a DL360. But it is a very detail info for a DL360. It is a similar to DL380 which a motherboard replacement is needed?

To Terry, after I installed the 1GHz CPUs, replaced VRMs, and the 92mm 110CFM fan, the server starts up without any error. It passes the POST and loads the Windows 2003 Server, but it shuts down before the OS completely loaded. Then, it waits for almost 45 seconds and starts again. It just loops. I have to unplug the power cord to stop it.
I forgot to mention that the server runs fine with only one 1GHz CPU and both replaced VRMs in additon to the set up with dual 733MHz CPUs and original VRMs.

Do I need to adjust the Switch 1 on the motherboard? I found an article on the Internet about the Switch 1 settings.
