Nothing should be required on the hardware side of things, but if you're running Windows 2003 enterprise or 2000 Advanced, then you may need to add the PAE switch to the boot.ini file.

1. Update System ROM
2. Install memory in the pairs
3. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283037

http://h18002.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11450_div/11450_div.HTML
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html

Note: some applications doesn't support more than 4 GB RAM. For example, Microsoft Exchange cannot use more than 4 GB RAM.
Also, only enterprise/datacenter editions of windows support more than 4 GB RAM

Notes:
1) Some applications don't support PAE switch and they don't know to use Address
Windows Extensions (AWE) API.
2) When PAE is enabled, you have a small performance impact due to the
extra memory translations required.
3) Windows 2003 RTM have bug related to PAE enabled, you need to install hotfix or use windows 2003 sp1
"Data is corrupted when PAE is enabled on a Windows Server 2003-based computer"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834628
