      <title>Failed Redundancy on ML370</title>

      <description>I am not a computer guru and have inherited this server system.I have a ML370 with 6 x 9.1 Hot Swap drives connected to the Integrated Dual Channel Wide Ultra 2 SCSI Controller(port 2).The platform is Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Configuration is as follows: 2 x 9.1 HDD are mirrored with the system volume and 3 x 9.1 HDD are configured with a RAID 5 data volume. 1 x 9.1 HDD is assigned a hot swap spare.Windows Disk Management reports that 1 HDD of the RAID 5 array is (Failed Redundncy) and it also reports that the 1 HDD hot swap spare has also (Failed Redundancy). How do I correctly fix this. I have 2 new 9.1 HDD to replace them. Do I replace the failed hardware, then right click the failed RAID-5 volume set(marked as Failed Redundancy) and choose Repair Volume? or do I go through the SCSI controllers BIOS utility upon reboot? I am not even sure if this controller supports RAID-5 at the hardware level. I also checked the event logs, which do not report any hardware failure.I humbly appreciate any suggestions.       <description>Joseph can you tell if you see any amber/red Led at front of HDD?&lt;BR /&gt;Also can you upload Integrated Management Log Viewer actual log?&lt;BR /&gt;Additionally make second Upload for Array Diagnostic Utility? &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If HDD connected to Array controller â   you can swap them on the fly, if to Onboard which is would be strange in your Configuration as long you see Online spare â   there must be Array Controller, possibly Integrated Smart Array Controller (ROC) with two channels.       <description>I don't have a smart array controller. I am certain of that. From what it looks like the Windows 2000 server OS disk management has a mirrored system HDD's 0&amp;amp;1 and a RAID-5 with Data HDD's 2,3,4. HDD #5 is just available as backup but NOT marked as a hot spare. Sorry wrong choice of words. It's only a dynamic disk and unallocated.Used for a standby spare. There were only amber lights lit on HDD 4 and 5. I right clicked disk 4 and selected "remove disk", then replaced the hdd and choose "repair volume". Volume regenerated and reported as healthy. Removed disk command for disk 5 and replaced with a new hdd.I changed disk 5 to dynamic and unallocated. Disk mangement reports that the RAID-5 is healthy, but both new disks still show amber led's and the green led hdd icon still lit at the same time. How do I remove the amber led's on the disks and only show green led's.Is there a way to confirm that the RAID-5 data has integrity? TIA.&lt;BR /&gt;Joey</description>

      <description>Can't tell exactly if Software RAID have an effect on the LED status â   possibly &lt;BR /&gt;When you replaced HDD had you restart server? Or done on the fly?  &lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>First, thank you for your help. I replaced both HDD on the fly. After repairing the volume on HDD#4 and the led did not change status, I restarted the machine, which still had no effect. What would you suggest?</description>

      <description>I cannot test the old hdds, however I did replace them with 2 new hdd of the exact same make and model. The storage controller is "Integrated dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI Adapter". Is that considered a Smart Array Controller? If so what utilities do I install to support it?The Disk Management shows the RAID-1 volume and the RAID-5 volume as "healthy". The original installation appears to be installed with only the Windows 2000 Server OS only,no other utilities. Their are no signs of utility ASR partitions, nor any other vendor utilities. Yikes! What have I gotten myself into!!! I downloaded the firmware cd and burned the image. I plan to use this first. Let me know your feedback, I appreciate it.</description>

      <description>I checked the device manager and it shows: Adapter SCSI Card 29160N -Ultra160 SCSI, and Compaq Integrated Dual Channel Wide Ultra SCSI Controller. I hope this helps.</description>

      <description>Joseph probably you should ignore LED &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;copy &lt;BR /&gt;IMPORTANT: The term "degraded status" in these utilities does not refer to hard drives that have been failed by the controller.       <description>I took your suggestion and bought a used Compaq Smart Array RAID, 158855-001, 16MB chip off of Ebay. You're correct it's a ML370 1st Generation and Beige. Besides sticking the this RAID chip in the motherboard. Could you possibly point me to some documentation for me to study to set this hardware raid up, as well as the monitoring software to install this correctly. I want to do this correctly,the way it's suppose to be done.I have decided to back the whole enchilada up and restore the data once the correct Monitoring software is installed for this hardware RAID.
