What kernel does CentOS use? There's a "cciss" driver in all recent kernels, as far as I know. This supports the 6i.

Craig

Hi

We currently have a number of these servers in use with FreeBSD and all works fine however we are looking at a web hosting solution that uses CentOS (www.centos.org) which does not support or recognise the Smartarray 6i controller nor can I find any patches/drivers/HP software for it that will work with CentOS.

So my question is what is the best way if any to monitor the raided drives for failure?

Is there any OS independent software or any HP utilies/software that will monitor the raid and notify us of a failure?

I have spent hours searching forums and Google without sucessful!

Relative newbie so please excuse me for any stupidity / missed obvious answers!

Shalom rock_hopper,

Any solution or software that works with Red Hat will work with Centos. All the code under the release is RH code.

Almost all RH rpms will install inot Centos.

Perhaps that might help.

SEP

Hi Craig

CentOS use's the latest 2.6 Kernel, since Steven's answer I have tried to install the latest HP controller driver for Redhat and found out the reason it wasn't working was because a file that the driver needs to update had been renamed to something else by the CentOS/Bluequartz installer (nuonce.net). After fixing that the driver did try to install but there is already the latest driver in CentOS anyway! The reason I guess it isn't recognising the raid array is because it is a hardware controller as oppose to software...
The solution I am going to use now is to install the HP management agents that are compatible with Redhat 4 and these should allow me to monitor the raid! :)
