Firt, your Windows 2000 Server must have the Service Pack 3 and installer the Proliant Support Pack for your server.

If your server don't have this you can't do in online this; only shutdown the sever and reboot with the Smart Start for your server.

Please confirm if you have the service pack 3 and Proliant Support Pack (PSP).

Hi mike,
If your RAID controller supports online capacity addition, then you can do it online, by putting new hard disk to the array & initiate capacity addition & you will get the free sapce as unassigned space on disk management . You can create this as a new logical volume.

But remember that if you are adding a higher capacity disk to an consist of lower capacity disks, you will get the lower capacity only (eg: If you are putting a 72GB hdd on an array of 18GB, you only get 18GB added space & balance space on your 72Gb will be waste.)

In that case you can go for a single disk with RAID0 or put 2 new disks of same capacity & do mirroring.

Please go through the following threads for more details.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=993564

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=986460

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=990272

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=988535

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=989114

Hope these informations will help you,

Regards,

Shameer
