Hi Brian

Thanks for message.

I have fixed it and I think it was related to what you have said. Roughly there is two places in the bios where the floppy is set - the expected plus the second - which I think is the virtual setting you mention. Sorry don't have the server availbale now to double check.

Thanks,
Antony

Hi,
Done all the obvious stuff
1) Installed floppy (tried two separate working ones)
2) Set bios for Legacy Diskette A: to floppy 1.44 3.5
3) Triple checked cable orientation and power
3a) Drive light stays on if the cable is the other way around (so I know the drive is ok)

4) On boot I get two bleeps when the floppy is connected (and the cable the correct way around)
5) Windows does not see the drive (or dos)

Can't see anything else in the bios that I should be setting and I don't think there is likly to be anything on the motherboard.

Help this is driving me mad (no pun intended)

Many thanks for any assistance
Antony

p.s. sorry for original mis-post into wrong forum

Hi Antony,

Did you find out what was the problem? I'm having exactly the same problem.

I found some links on how to make RAID-pathed installation CD's, but couldn't get it work either.

Hi Antony,

I don't know if this is your problem but you can check to eliminate it.

The ML110G2 has the ability to enable a virtual floppy disk in the BIOS. This will disable any physical floppy disk which is attached. The floppy disk controller can be checked as follows: -

Enter BIOS via F10
-Advanced
-I/O Device Configuration
-Floppy Disk Controller

You have two choices now..
BMC VSI (This is a Virtual Floppy)
SIO FDC (This is a Legacy Floppy)

If set to SIO FDC your standard floppy drive should work OK.

I hope this helps

Brian

Thanks Brian,

That worked for me too. Although my BIOS-version has only Enable/Disable switch.

Still, I just can't believe that installing Windows 2k3 with raid requires the floppy drive!
