Hello,

My enclosure is setup as follows
Bay 1 has BL30p - connected to Port 1 on patch panel A
Bay 2 has BL20p/Bl20p
Bay 3 has BL30p - connected to Port 3 on patch panel A

Using the Fiber Patch Panel (not the cisco panel)

So far, I got both BL30p connected via Fiber to the SAN but the 2 BL20ps is not connecting. Tried all ports.
The HBA's are not being seen. I used the HP BladeSystem p-Class SAN Conn.. Kit instructions but they didnt help.

any idea?
thanks

Hi,
Think you have got your Blades models wrong.
You cannot have 2 BL20p's in the same bay.
30/35's take half a bay and 20/25's take full bay.
If Bay 2 has 2 BL30p then, I would suggest to double check WWN.
Patch Panel A port 2 is for the top blade in bay 2 and Patch Panel B port 2 is for bottom blade in Bay 2.

"The HBA's are not being seen." Do you mean by this via BIOS you cannot connect to the controllers?

Eddie:

Let me make sure I understand your config...

Do you mean that you have BL20p (a full slot blade) in Bay 1 and 3 and 2 BL30p's (a half height Blade) in Slot 2 with a sleeve?

Can you telnet into the SAN switch and capture the output from the command "switchshow" and post it here?

Also, log into the web gui if you can and capture the Name Server screen.

Keep in mind that you will not get a fabric login (f port) from a Bl30 since it is on a 2 port hub with the other BL30 in the same slot. On the switch, you should see an L-port.

Have you tried to reseat the HBA's?

Steven

Albert,
You are correct.
The setup is

B1 -> BL20
B2 -> BL30 && BL30
B3 -> BL20

Patch Panel A
(starting from the bottom)
Port 1 -> B1
Port 2 -> B2 - Top
Port 3 -> B3
Patch Panel B
Port 2 -> B2 bottom

B2 bay can't see the SAN via HBA. No WWN's show up on the SAN.

I dont have access to telnet to the SAN.(Pillar) for a showswitch.

Thanks
Hi,

How about removing the Both BL 30p and putting one 20p there and check the switch?

this will confirm out Fiber path panel is working good.

Prashant S.

Eddie:

Port 1 -> B1
Port 2 -> B2 - Top
Port 3 -> B3
Patch Panel B
Port 2 -> B2 bottom

The way the Bl30 blades connect are different than the way you laid out. Each BL30 in the same bay (top and bottom of bay 2) both connect through port 2 on both patch panels. The top blade does not use Patch Panel A exclusively and the bottom blade, Patch Panel B exclusively. Both Top and bottom use conenct through both patch panels since the HBA's are dual port.

Do you get a link light on the front of the patch panels for any of the ports?

If the HBA is actually installed and working properly, then the usual cause for non-fabric login is the lack of the proper hba driver. Current drivers for the BL30 are located here...

For Emulex hba's... Is the HBA showing up properly in Device Manager (assuming you are running Windows)?

What OS are you running?

Is your zoning set up properly?

Is there any way you can get into the SAN switches to check out some of these things?

On your hosts, run SANSufer or HBAnywhere/LPUTILNT to check out what the HBA's can actually see on the SAN, if they are properly connected.

You can also try swapping bays with a known "good" port.
Hi,
What Steven mentioned above that both connect through port 2 on both patch panels is very correct.
I would suggest though with my little experience to just enable one path to the SAN during installation via HBA BIOS.
That is BAY 2:
Top server->Patch Panel A Port 2->HBA path 1
Bottom server->Patch Panel B Port 2-> HBA path 2.
Again I would like to ask, Have you double checked the WWN you have created your host with and that on your HBA card?

If WWN is correct then do what Prashant suggests.
