Hello HP,

Would you please strongly consider adding a Test Email button to the Proliant's HP Management Agents, Event Notifier Configuration Wizard, otherwise there is no way to tell if these important alerts will send successfully.

Thanks!!

I dont know for sure this will work, but try restarting your SNMP Service after configuring Event Notifier.

Restarting SNMP generates a trap, which hopefully Event Notifier will see.

Good suggestion! Restarting the SNMP Service (which also restarts the dependent services) DOES cause an alert to be sent!

The system has detected the following event:

SNMP Trap: 18006

Date time: 05/08/2007 12:40:07 AM
Computer: VMHost
Source: NIC Agents
Type: Error
Category: (5)

Description:
A 'NIC Connectivity Lost' trap indicates the logical network adapter is failed and connectivity is lost.

Details:
Affected Adapter Slot 1
Affected Adapter Port 2
Hi,

no need to restart the agents or SNMP, just use the HP Management Agents config utility in the Control Panel, there is a soft button called "test trap" under the SNMP TAB which will send out a SNMP trap and if you configured the notification utility with the SMTP server, you'll get an email simmilar to the one below. If this works, the config of the notification utility is correct.

---------------------------------------
The system has detected the following event:

SNMP Trap: 11003

Date time: 05/10/2007 02:10:58 PM
Computer: xyzxyz
Source: Foundation Agents
Type: Informational
Category: (4)

Description:A 'Generic Trap' provides a mechanism for sending a trap with all information embedded in the trap text.

Details: Management Agents Test Trap sent - Thursday, May 10, 2007 2:10:58 PM
----------------------------------------

HTH

Kris
