I have no direct experience on this server.
I think you can choose to create two RAID 0 made up by one HD each.
or yuo can install the system using only one HD creating a RAID 0 using only one HD and add the other after the installation.

Bye.

TJK

hi,

now, my needs are defitively simple: disable RAID material.
i'm going to explain why.

i've got 2 servers:
- ALPHA: one hp Proliant DL that use the RAID material
- BETA: an another server doesn't do the RAID.

device:
- RAID material: /dev/cciss/*
- no RAID : /dev/sd*

when i take out a HD from BETA to use in the ALPHA, i can't use it: it doesn't work
i must to enable it to RAID, so if i do that, all my data will lost. and i don't want that.

i do need to have the possibility to switch the data of backup HDs between the both servers.

any advice would be very appreciated.

thank in adavance.

Unlike Windows, Linux is pretty much hardware independant.
The reason moving between these servers doesn't work for you is probably because hte filesystem labels are different, as per the device names you mentioned.

I would suggest looking at your /etc/fstab.
If you can boot to a boot floppy or CD and fix the paths here for your alternate hardware you could well correct the issue.

I do not believe simply disabling RAID is the solution you are looking for. This server was built for RAID.
