Dear all,

Recently, we had a ML350 G5 for test purposes in our office. I noticed that this box was extremely quiet compared to a ML370 G5. Is that possible? Or are there any options to lower to noise level of a ML 370 G5 (i.e. low fan speed profile etc.)?

Many thanks.

Kind regards,
Matthias

Yes, i think this is possible.
If you compare the architecture of the both server you will see, that the ML370 G5 have a "center wall" fan cage with up to 6 fans. The ML350 G5 has not such a "center wall", it has a fan assembly an a headsink for cooling instead.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00710498/c00710498.pdf

http://www.icare.hp.com.cn/TechCenter_StaticArticle/33838/38889.pdf

Fan speed is controlled by the hardware not by drivers, so the fans will run at the default low speed regardless of the support pack being installed or not.

You also may want to take a look at the system setup ("F9" at boot). There's an option to set the standard fan speed.
