Upgrading Processors - Proliant 3000

Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the Proliant 3000 past 550Mhz?

Counting down in Binary using the first 4 jumpers might seem to indicate that up to 950 Mhz is possible (Following the pattern).

But would the VRM's need to be upgraded and is it even possible?

All that is irrelavent, the Chipset and the BIOS have to support the CPU. Also these were PIII 100 CPUs and that was the top speed, 550. The next step was PIII 133 and I am sure the systemboard did not support 133 bus speeds.

There are 1Ghz P3's available for Slot 1 that have 100MHz front side bus, but the voltage is lower at 1.7 instead of 2, so the VRMS may be an issue.

If the jumper settings have sufficient options then I don't see why it wouldn't work, but yes it's true the bios probably won't support it.

Anyone know this for sure?

I had one of those(sold it). The CPU speed was twin 450's with the ram at 4gig.
This was the best system I have had yet. If you do not have the ram at the max(4G) try it before looking for faster cpu's.

Where did you sell yours?

Similar spec servers don't seem to be selling for much on any auction sites, I am mostly trying to upgrade it for fun.

512MB SDRAM seems to still be quite expensive anyway and ECC memory rare.
