We have several servers that are now showing as needing critical software updates in HP SIM. I logged onto the servers in question and all needed the same driver updating. It was...

HP ProLiant Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver for Windows Server 2003

The current version is 5.2.0.32 and the two newer versions available are 6.6.0.32 which comes with PSP 7.80A and 6.6.2.32. I have tried applying both to all servers but it comes back with result code 3 and the following message...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup Session Beginning 14/08/2007 - 4:22:25 AM
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Command Line Parameters Given: /silent

Name: HP ProLiant Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver for
Windows Server 2003
New Version: 6.6.2.32

Beginning Silent Session...

The software will not be installed on this system because the required
hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn't
apply to this system.

Installation will not continue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
End Session
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried installing Microsoft KB932755 which is mentioned on the driver downlaod page but that made no differnce. If this driver is truly not needed how can I supress the critical error warning so that it does not show in HP SIM?

All servers are running 2003 SP1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried installing PSP 7.90 but usually the latest driver available is the one from the latest PSP or newer and that version was 6.6.2.32. Can you confirm if PSP 7.9 has this version?

Made no difference. Please see attachment for error. I am not sure that newer drivers will make any difference as the driver seems to think that the hardware is not in place.
I have had this (infrequently) in the past with tape library drivers that showed as needing critical updates but the drivers could not find the hardware required to apply the driver to. I ended up ingoring the HP SIM warnings but this is not the way I want to move forward as it makes it unclear when viewing the screen at a glance, what is wrong or not.

Hello Moray,
can you please post the Hardware (DLxxx, MLxxx, P400, P600, ...) and the BIOS level of the system and the controler? I've ~10 servers with P400 controlers, and all working w/o any problems. But some months ago I had a similar problem with an other driver which I can't install, the was an old SMART BIOS level the reason. After flashing the BIOS I could install the driver.

Regards
Holger
