Sorry, I guess in my haste I fogot to include some important details. It's a P400 controller, yes I've selected parallel array a, and yes all the drives are the same size, model, etc....

I'm trying to add 2 drives to my 6 drive 1+0 Raid, but I don't get the option to expand the array using ACU. I'm using SmartStart 7.91 as suggested, but to no avail. Anybody have any suggestions?

Things to check:
- Controller model
- Are you selecting the "Parallel Array A"?
- The disks you're trying to add are same size or greater than the smallest disk on that RAID?

Hi Steve,

I think Karlo is right. For the array expand(even offline) the P400 needs cache to make the parity re-calculation and to expand the array .From the provided quickspecs link , under key features there is:

"Addition of the battery backed cache upgrade enables BBWC, RAID 6 with ADG, array expansion, logical drive extension, RAID migration, and stripe size migration"

Here it is not explicit given if offline or online...

You can try to update FW and try SS 7.80 but i'm quite sure it will not help...

Regards,
Pac

Hi Pac,
You're correct....updating the latest firmware and SS did not work. I'll look into the possibility of requiring BBWC that you and Karlo have suggested. Thanks.

Steve

I was having the EXACT same problem with p440ar on 380G9.

I upgraded the Smart Storage Administrator to 3.10.3.0 (July 2017) and the "expand array" option is magically there now. It was on ver 2.2

http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_bd0f127e68d246538db6b63864
