I have an open case with HP for problems related to PS 8.00A. There seems to be way too many people having problems with it. I recommend deploying 7.91 until the next release of PSP is out. 8.00A seems to be a problem child and should be skipped!

The service then in turn will not start at all. PSP 8 is totally installed on the server except for the version control part. Add/Remove does not give me an option to remove version control. I do have a call into HP support they haven't been able to help either.

Don't have a solution yet, but I'm running into a very similar problem with the VCA in PSP 8.0a on a Proliant DL360 G3. I was attempting a PSP update from 7.5 to 8.0.

Tried to run the full PSP 8.0a update from the System Management Homepage on the remote server. All seemed to install OK. After rebooting the server, the VCA refuses to start.

It's odd because I've had 5-6 successful PSP updates to 8.0a on other Proliant servers.

hi
maybe that's why a lot of people are having issue with version control agent
HP recommends when a server needs to update PSP doing it consequentially I mean 7.5 -> 7.7 -> 7.9 -> 8.0

not going to 7.5 to 8.0 or 7.7 to 8.0

check customer advisory it is not the same issue but any similar behavior can be cause by doing that

Version Control Agent (VCA) for Windows Software Fails to Upgrade when the ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) is Upgraded from Version 7.80 to Version 8.00

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01409709

regards
PSP 8.0a VCA often fails to install properly when doing so from the remote server's System Managment Homepage. My most recent failures (of many) was upgrading 2 servers from psp 7.9 to 8.0.
The fix for me has been:
1. Install software psp from the System Management Homepage/VCA
2.  Restart server
3. If/when VCA fails, uninstall it using "add/remove programs"
4. Copy the VCA installation package (cp008277.exe)
5. install VCA locally (no boot needed)
