OK, the program hung at the return to server maintenance screen, for 55 hours. Too scared to do anything, I sat here and eventually plucked up the courage to press F5.

Straight back to the Smartstart Server Maintenance screen. The drives are all there and I can now start creating partitions before moving data around and deleting/rebuilding partition sizes.

I have a Proliant ML350 G4 with 3 x 36.4 drives. I have added 3 addition drives of the same size. I used smartstart to access the ACU and expanded the array. I then extended the logical drive.
I then clicked on EXIT ACU and the screen changed to a white background with 'RETURNING TO SERVER MAINTENANCE...' on it with a tumbling hour glass.

This has now been on my screen for 55 hours and I am starting to worry that something is wrong.

My question is, should the screen be displaying this message for this long or do I have a problem?

Hi,Sean Creech
first of all data backup is important before playing with this activity , have you done that ?
As you told that this activity was done by smart start means off line method.
this screen comes back after extension in almost scenarios but it's not happening at your end !
probably some issue would be there , smart start is based on Linux kernel.so it may possible that loaded image of smart start would be not responding ,
Once reboot the server only this can let us know the current position of server.
now come to solution :-
already you had extended logical drive
Have you saved those changes ?
if yes then you will get those hdd's
space added in the existing logical drive
and in disk management new space would be addressed as unallocated space .
if settings are not saved then you have to do exercise once again.
if by luck, all settings are saved then refer pdf as attached, view the disk management screen it will look similarly to this as per your logical drives .
after this you have to fire diskpart command on command prompt .
you may be able to extend only last logical drive space only .
refer below command
c:\>DISKPART
DISKPART>list volume
DISKPART>select volume (last volume as per screen )
DISKPART>extend noerr
now successful extended message will come

kindly let me know the require info
1. Smart array controller mode ?
2. firmware version
3.operating system
# expand and extend can be done in online
mode also .no need to down the server

please let me know for further assistance

GOOD LUCK
.....
