topic Upgrading processors in ProLiant Servers (ML,DL,SL)

I have 2 compaq ml370 servers, both at 667mhz, single processor. If I were to upgrade the servers to dual p3 1ghz, do I have to use the Compaq kit? The servers will only be in service for about 1 more year before they are to be replaced so I'd prefer to go the cheaper route and just buy the cheaper procssors and put them on a slot 1 board.

I realize this would not be supported by Compaq if I ran into problems, but can this be done?

Hi there, is not advise to do that, because compaq server have VRM to control the processor voltage. Further more, if you upgrade 3rd party processor, anything wrong to the server, compaq will not cover the warranty. If, you really wanted to try , all is on your own risk.
