Inherited a DL360 and thought I'd play around with it - so far, a royal pain...

Using SmartStart 7.91, I get no option to install Win 2k3 -- complains about the RAID controller (MegaRAID?) in the machine.

Using SmartStart 8.0 I encountered a weird problem -- after checking configuration, all appears fine - but I can't physically click on the "Deploy" button - it doesn't work/take me anywhere.

Anybody else encounter this problem? Suggestions?

I've tried to do an install directly from the Win 2k3 discs but it consistently fails somewhere in the install - I'm suspecting a driver issue - so I've been trying the SmartStart options. Any suggestions would be appreciated - I'm not familiar with the HP server experience, so the learning curve has been interesting...

If the server is a DL320 and is using the Intel Controller. follow the next procedure.

-Access the BIOS.
-Enter advanced options and enable SATA RAID.
-Reboot the server.
-Press F8 to enter the embedded SATA RAID Array Configuration Utility.
-Then go to disk management and press the insert key to select the HDD's to use.
-Then go to create array and choose both of the HDD's as a RAID 1 mirror.
-The rebuilding proccess will take about 30 seconds per Gigabite so if it is a 140 GB HDD it will take about an hour to rebuild.
-After it finishes rebuilding reboot the server and press F8 again to access the array configuration utility.
-Go to manage array and press CTRL-B to make the array bootable, you will see an asterisk next to the partition.
-Boot the server to the windows CD and press F6 at the prompt.
-The set up will continue and then it will give you an option to press "S" and specify the driver.
-Then you can inset the floppy with the driver that applies (see this emails attachments)
-Once the driver is specified it will look for the logical drive and will allow you to install windows on that volume.
-From this point on everything will remain the same, just keep in mind that when the installation is complete customer will have 3 unknown devices in the windows device manager.
-Those 3 devices are related to the Intel 3000 series chipset, so you need to install the proliant support pack 8.0 on this server to correct that problem.

As it turns out...

I do have a DL360 and I am encountering a similar/same issue the original poster described.

Using SmartStart 8.0 I encountered the following problem:

At the 'Continue Deployment with current hardware configuration' page when I click on the 'Continue' button - it doesn't take me to the next step. Nothing happens at all.

I can 'Reboot to RBSU, ORCA or Launch ACU but none of those will move me forward from this step.

DL360 G3
Windows Server 2008 64bit
Smartstart CD for 64 bit
I will be using a 4 gig USB to install the OS

thank you for any assistance,
Jerry
