      <description>Hello,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I have an: HP DL760 8way 2.8GHZ HT server&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Replacing an older proliant...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Basically i need an answer relating to the OS and the use of the CPU's HT.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Will Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 recognise that that the 8x installed xeon cpus are HT.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If i opened up task manager for eg will it show that there are 16 CPU's pumping away?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;(one physical processor looks like&lt;BR /&gt;two logical processors to the operating system)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The same question as above but using:&lt;BR /&gt;suse linux enterprise server 10?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I want an OS that recognises that the installed cpu's are HT so that i can execute 16 separate tasks (or code streams called threads)?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I hope the above will make some sort of sense many thanks in advance.I do award points for help...&lt;BR /&gt;Kind Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;John</description>

      <description>Hi John,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I am little bit confuse Ur question, BTW what I have understand U need see the 16 processor in OS mode because Ur system has 8 processorâ  s and each processor is HT technologic. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;U just reboot Ur system then press F8 go for system BIOS level then check which portion CPU information check it the check HT on/off then U just click on.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Check this way.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;BR/&lt;BR /&gt;Yaqub</description>

      <description>Hello ,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks for your reply.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If i installed Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 on the DL760G2 8way server.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;When i click on: &lt;BR /&gt;Task Manager-&amp;gt;performance tab.&lt;BR /&gt;(without HT enabled in the bios)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It shows that there are indeed the 8x CPU's that are installed ..Great ! &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;** Now **&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If i enabled the HT function in bios.&lt;BR /&gt;Restart/boot the system&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;When i open up task manager and click on:&lt;BR /&gt;Task Manager-&amp;gt;performance tab.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Will it show 16 CPU's ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Does Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 support:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;8x HT cpus?&lt;BR /&gt;(8x physical processor looks like 16x logical processors to the operating system)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Kind Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;John</description>

      <description>Hello,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks: Claypool &amp;amp; Karlo&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;-For your comments with regard to the above questions...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I wanted to make sure as i have:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 and i didn't want to open/register if it wasn't suitable.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The server is only used for scientfic data crunching and the ammount of threads is more important than actual processing power.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Although having said that...i would love to have better !&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If windows 2003 R2 Enterprise will show in task manager that there are 16 cpu's so to speak pumping away than thats brill....&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;To me.. it means i can run 16x instances at the same timen ( 1x per logical core)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I almost put another dent in my credit card ! &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Kind Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;John</description>
