By following the method i stated in my previous reply we now have the machine up and running with 64gb. I would still like to know why technically you cannot put the whole 64gb in one shot and expect it to boot.

ML370 G5
64gb comprising of 8gb kits 397415-s21

Brand new machine came with 4gb 2 2gb sticks and it boots up fine, once we filled both memory cards to bring it up to 64gb it won't boot, it beeps and the health panel shows red for the health icon and all the memory stick slots show amber. He have the latest firmware installed also
so something is truly wrong here.Pls help under a deadline for next monday to get this thing up for a training course. Also called support and the only suggestion was install the latest firmware, which we did to no avail.

thanks

Hi,

Check the memory configuration on the server from the link below
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12478_na/12478_na.html#Memory

The part number you have mentioned seems to be compatible with this server.

Install two dimms at a time i.e. in only slots 1 & 5 and also try one proc and remove any pci cards.

Keep us posted and all the best !

test with the 2GB sticks in the original slots and add a single new set, see if the server boots with this.

okay with the new firmware we started with 8 gb
and boot, and that worked we added 8gb more to 16gb and it boots, we are currently up to 32gb
between both memory boards and it works. We are
adding slowly 8gb at a time and booting. This
makes it a slow process, it should just recognize 64gb from the onset.

thanks
Technically it should work the first time.
Above options are only to determine if "some" stick does not work as expected.

At the end all stick apear to function, so possibly only a bad contact (badly seated stick or card) may have been the cause of the initial problem.

If you have time to spare you can try first to go back to 4G and then again to 64G in a single step.
