Read over your post with the model numbers, but that doesn't matter too.

I have these two in an array:
DH072BB978 HPD9
DH072BAAKN HPD3
Hi

One of our HDDs in a ML350 G5 is I believe on the way out. Diagnostics say there are performance issues with it and when I rebooted the other day it actually rebuilt the array.

For safety I have ordered another HDD to swap it out with using the spare part number.

Original HDD:
HP MODEL: DG146ABAB4
Firmware: HPD5

NEW HDD:
HP MODEL: DG146ABAB4
Firmware: HDP2

My plan was to power down the server, swap disks over and let the array rebuild.

Can anyone see any problems with this? Is there going to be any issues with different model/firmware?

Thanks

Hi,

I had the same problem when I needed to replace a faulty drive in an array.
I just replaced it with different firmware and all went good.

You can replace it and it is going to rebuild the information. The firmware is not an obsticle for rebuilding the information as long as the hard drive is the same model and supported by the storage controller.

It's the same spare part number, but obviously the HP model is different above.

Pretty sure it'll be supported buy the e200i controller but i'll double check.

So my plan of powering down, replacing and rebooting should be ok...

Wish me luck :D

Just as a side note... does anyone find HP numbers REALLY confusing?

I ordered a 432320-001 (spare part number on current drives).

On the box it says P/N 431958-B21, which is also on the e200i page. Happy days.

But then I look at the drive itself and it says HP P/N 504015-002 which is NOT on the e200i page. Infact it's not even on the HP parts finder website.

I also note the serial is different to the box.

There are different numbers in order to identify an specific drive for instance, the HP HDD (Hot-Plug 146GB 10k rpm, 2.5" Single-Port SAS hard drive), has different numbers, but it all depends on what you need
Spare part number: 432320-001 (in order to get a replacement drive)
Option part number: 431958-B21 (use by sales, is an option part)
Assembly part number: 438628-002 (a manufacture number)
Model Number: DG146A3516

You can use the hp hard drive matrix to get this information:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00305257
