Compaq DL380 Win Server 2K3 Install

How would I go about installing Windows Server 2003 on a Generation 1 DL380?

I downloaded the smartstart 5.5 cd from hp, it boots into it and I went to create a support disk, but there isn't one for server 2003, only for up to windows server 2000. Do I need to get a later version of smartstart, or am I not creating the right diskette or what?

So I tried that anyway and in windows install to specify additional drivers, it asked for the disk, and it tries to read it but I don't think it will work because it brings me back to the screen asking for the diskette.

Hi,

The last version of smartstart on G1 server is 5.5. If we do not have an option in smartstart for win2003, the only option is to perform manual installation.

Create the array.
Boot from windows 2003. Press F6 when prompted.
Provide the diskette(floppy with driver downloaded from hp website).

Upon completion of OS installation, we can install the support pack and drivers relevant.

Driver for default integrated smart array controller is package: cp005760.exe.

Download the file and extract contents to a floppy disk.

I erased everything in the utility, and restarted smartstart, it gets to the point that it configures the array after selecting windows 2000 server and a manual install path.

After it configures the array, it is in the array configuration utility when you select done or save configuration, and I can't get out. The only way to get out is to power cycle the server, and that causes me to have to completely restart smartstart and re-erase everything.

There is no way to configure the array on the ROM after it is erased. The server will not let me unless the array is already configured.

We cannot perform assisted installation and hence need to perform manual installaton using smartstart v5.5 disk.

I start smartstart 5.5 after erasing everything, select manual install, and select windows 2000 server.

It gets to the point of configuring the array, it configures it, but dosen't let me exit the array utility. It just sits there and I can't exit the ARRAY UTILITY without power cycling the server and that makes me have to re-erase everything and start over again.

OK why is my server wanting to create a array every time after I erase everything? I can't run the array ROM utility either before it boots for some reason.

Im not sure, but I recall the smartstart procedure will install W2k3 by selecting w2000 as the os, but putting in the W2k3 disk when prompted for the OS cd.
