On an HP Proliant DL360 G5 running MSSBS 2003.

After rebooting due to OS updates/patches the system did not recognize any drives. We have 3 drives using the smart array p400i controller. All 3 are not being recognized AT ALL. For all 3 to fail at once would be odd, so have replaced the SAS backplane and data cable - no results.

Using smartstart 7.91, it states the smart array is not configured and no configuration for the array accelerator board. Could the p400i hardware have failed? Any help would be greatly appreciated - im dead in the water here!

Derek

Hey Mark, the hardware has no battery and we are using a version with 256MB cache. It is set as first boot in BIOS. Firmware installed is v2.08.

We had no problems with this server until the recent reboot, at which time it just plain refused to recognize that there are any drives in the bays. If i take all out and reboot the system the smart array initializes quickly and realizes there are no drives - if i reboot with all 3 drives in, it takes a while but returns the same result - no logical/physical drives detected.

I have replaced the SAS backplane thinking that was bad, but that has made no difference. So, drives are connected to the array controller, but it refuses to recognize they are there.

Thoughts?

I have installed all updated firmware and bios etc. Still same results - not recognizing drives. After the smart array initialization drive LEDs go solid amber, and remain that way.

Upon checking the integrated manageress log it states 2 of our 3 drives failed and the array was operating in interim recovery mode.

Also, I am now NOT prompted to to press F8 to get into ORCA to check the drives after the Smart array tries to initialize. Before updating firmware i was prompted right after the smart array noted there were no drives attached.

ok do you get option for F8 with drives detatched,

if you do not get the option with drives attatched ,looks like a faulty drive
add them 1 at a time to verify drive status
