Smart Array 6400 battery failure query

Hi i'm having this issue whereby the battery of one of my 2 node cluster running w2k has a Smart Array 6400 battery failure.
However when this node holds the resources for the cluster resource it cannot hold the resources of the clustered disks and there is no error in the event manager or "cluster administrator". It can hold the ownership of the clustered resource but the drives does not appear.
Could this be related to the battery issue? No changes in terms of configuration has been done on this server before this issue occured.

Please update your Smart Array controller to the latest FW.

Hi thks for the info but this error only appears on one of the node of a cluster but not both so do you think updating the fw will help in resolving all the issues i've?

Hi fartman,

You have mentioned two issues here:
1. Smart Array 6400 battery failure issue
2. A cluster node could not hold the resources of the clustered disks

Battery is used to speed up the write operations.
The controller battery enables the controller cache for writing. Without battery the Read only cache will work. Other than that it dosn't affect the functionality of disks

That should clarify the issue.

Hi was wondering if this battery failure would cause the cluster node unable to hold the ownership of the cluster resource as this only occurred when i start receiving the battery failure message
