I have found the SmartArray shown in two separate card on POST and ACU, one is 6404 and one is 6404EM.

Why?

I found to form a storage array ( RAID 6 ) with maximum 56 disks but no is impossible becuase the SmartArray card separate two card and two channels for each card ( not one card four channels! ). Any idea?

The current firmare is 2.64 and ACU is 7.5. Please help

The 6404 is in fact a 6402 with another controller card plugged on top. So the 6404 consists of 2 controllers plugged into one slot. You can connect 56 disks to this controller, why not?

I think the point is that having two dual-channel controllers instead of one four-channel implicates that it is not possible to create one large array spanning accross all four channels.

I never noticed that detail of SA6404 & that's quite interesting.

However I am not sure if having a single array consisting of more than 28 drives is a good idea - more drives equals higher probability of non-recoverable failure.

Rgds.

>You can connect 56 disks to this controller, why not?

But you can not create one big array over this 56 disks.
