topic Java Woes in Server Management (Insight Manager 7)

I am using CIM7 2.1 which utilizes Java v.1.31_08.
I recently deployed some IBM Blades and installed Java v.1.42_01 to access the Managment Module. After installing the newer version of Java on my W2K workstation, I can not launch CIM7 for monitoring.

After searching these forums, I tried-
-unchecking "Use Java v.1.42_01" in the IE options
-cleared caches from both versions of Java

I can logon to the CIM7 server, but the Device List does not load properly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Do you have both versions of the JRE installed?
Try manually re-installing JRE 1.3.1_08.
Both should be able to co-exist.

Yes, according to add/remove programs and Java control panel, both JREs are installed.
If I remove either Java versions, I get prompted to install them again after I access their respected apps.

I agree that they "should" work. According to what I read on the Java web site, the app controls which version of java is utilized.

However, CIM7 just doesn't seem to launch the older Java version without issue.

Is there a way to get CIM7 to operate with the newer version of Java?

No, I don't think there is, as you're aware it has come up in the forums before.

I have got IM to work when I had JRE 1.3.1_04 and a 1.4 variant installed, but I've only got 1.3.1_08 now.

The only suggestion I can make is to reinstall 1.3.1_08 so that's the latest JRE installed and then reboot to clear up any cache or other lingering files.

Thanks Rob, that did it!

I uninstalled 08 and let the CIM7 server reinstall the older java again. The 08 version is the default under the IE options again, but I can still access the IBM Blade MM, so I'm happy.

All is well.
