you might try:

'spanning-tree protocol-version rstp'

also, PVST/PVST+ does not interoperate at all with full MSTP, only the CST portion in MST, which means it basically won't work if you have vlans in multiple instances in MST...

there are no procurve switches that can be configured for PVST/PVST+...

btw, all the spanning tree info is in the advanced traffic management guide:

http://cdn.procurve.com/training/Manuals/2610-AdvTrafficMgmt-Dec2007-59918641.pdf

hth...jeff

The MST is default spanning tree mode on the Procurve 2610 (R.11.07) switch.
We have some issues with HP MST and Cisco PVST (multiple Vlans) but with good working cases on HP RSTP and Cisco PVST.
I have tried to configure RSTP on the HP 2610 use following command but it is still booted with MST.
Does any one know how to change this default MST to RSTP that same the old HP 2510 (H.10.50) switch?
Thanks,
Kevin
************************
spanning-tree
spanning-tree force-version RSTP-operation

HP2910> sh sp
Multiple Spanning Tree (MST) Information
STP Enabled : Yes
Force Version : RSTP-operation
IST Mapped VLANs : 1-4094
Switch Priority : 32768
Max Age : 20
Max Hops : 20
Forward Delay : 15

MST is not contradictory to RSTP.

STP is originally a single instance spanning-tree protocol.
MST is multiple instance spanning-tree
PVST is per-vlan-spanning tree variant.

within MST orPVST you may configure standard (STP)or rapid (RSTP) spanning-tree.

with MST multiple instances are started to determine a STP topology, each for a number of vlan's. But there is a maximum number of instances, this wil not bee one instance for each vlan!

I think the 2610 can do MST but not PVST, so if PVST is what you need to communicate to the cisco's, you'll need another switch-model.

regards,
Pieter

Pieter,
Thanks for respond.
We have the issues with Spanning-Tree between MST HP on 2610 (Switch Priority: 32768) and PVST on Cisco 3550 switch (Switch Priority: 8192). They are not form the region and I got both â This switch is rootâ on both switches.
The trunk port that connected to switches was configured to allow all Vlans and 802.1q trunk protocol.

If I replace HP 2610 (MST) with HP 2650 (RSTP) I can see the Cisco is the STP root on the HP 2650 switch.
You mentioned â MST is not contradictory to RSTPâ , did I miss anything with MST?

Regards,
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
what i tried to say is your issue is not MST <-> RSTP, but MST <->PVST.

MST and PVST determine how the topology is built.
RSTP results in faster convergence before data is forwarded again when a topology-change occured.

Jeff states in his post "it's not interoperable at all".
I have no practice in combining these methods.

regards,
Pieter

Thanks Jeff and Pieter.

Jeff,
I have tried but didnâ t find 'spanning-tree protocol-version rstp' command option on the HP 2610 switch.
How can we change from MST to RSTP (the default STP on the old firmware like 2650)?

Pieter,
It looks like we have an issue with STP between HP MST and Cisco PVST but RSTP with PVST is working.
Any ideas?

Regards,
Kevin
