    <description>Ok Cheers&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;So I add no ip-address-gateway 192.168.1.1 to the config, will that not break anything? Then I add ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 Do I need to take out the old ip route?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Cheers</description>

      <description>Hello &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Question &lt;BR /&gt;I connected a Laptop to a rj45 in the network. Then Patched The port to r45 in the wall on the Vlan, Then I assign a static IP of &lt;BR /&gt;i/p 10.22.30.10 &lt;BR /&gt;s/n 255.255.255.0&lt;BR /&gt;G/w 10.22.30.1&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I can ping the network switch on 192.168.1.221 but i can't get to the internet? do i need a special route?       <description>yes, it seems you need a default route.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 &amp;gt;ip of your Internet Gateway&amp;lt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The line in your config:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;ip default-gateway 192.168.1.1 &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;does not do what you might suppose.</description>

      <description>Correct me if i'm wrong, but the route you specified is for REACHING the 10.22.30.0/24 subnet, not the internet.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;you must specify a 0.0.0.0 route to enable the internet ACCESS.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Try to have a look at route print on your windows or linux PC and identify the route to the internet.</description>

      <description>Another thing:&lt;BR /&gt;you can leave the default gw line, but you shouldn't expect this is used on all vlans by default, translating the vlan GW address in some way or forwarding the traffic automatically.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Vlans are made primarily for Network partitioning. A default behavior of such kind should be considered regrettable.</description>

      <description>Cheers&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I'm im lost.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I have add IP 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.35 which is our domain controller/DNS server&lt;BR /&gt;Then back on the client machine change the DNS setting to 192.168.1.35, Still no luck in getting on the network. Then I add 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 which is our gateway Still no luck.&lt;BR /&gt;on the client Machine&lt;BR /&gt;route print&lt;BR /&gt;0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.22.30.1 10.22.30.10&lt;BR /&gt;10.22.30.0. 255/24 10.22.30.10 10.22.30.10&lt;BR /&gt;Default gateway 10.22.30.1&lt;BR /&gt;No menation of 192.168.1.1?  &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;But I ping 6 address on the 192.168.1.1 network? from solarwinds ip tracker</description>
