Hi,

we have a HP Procurve Switch 5308xl, firmware 11.03, which is currently equipped with three 4-port modules (J4821B), one 16-port module (J4907A) and four 24-port module (J4820B).

We need more room for mini-GBIC, so we tried to exchange a 24-port module with a new 4-port module.

Since this is the core switch I can't reboot the device but I was thinking that the modules are hot swap.

Unfortunately the new module remains inactive and the log states: "Slot D Inactive: Module/Configuration mismatch"

Must I reboot the switch? Or exists a way to force the switch to recognize that the module type is different?

Thank you
Massimo
Hi,
as far as i know you can only hot swap modules from the same typ (J4820B with J4820B).
in your case it is a different module and this requieres reboot.
abe

I was suspecting about the existence of this caveat!

Anyone (maybe a HP system engineer) could make the miracle suggesting me a secret trick?

Otherwise I must stop the whole datacenter to reboot the switch!
