have you checked your cables? i have had some switches and hubs that required null modem adapters to make them work. are you using the cables that came with the unit?

HyperTerminal is not always the most ideal terminal emulator. There are some good freeware tools available.

A normal config for Hyperterminal to connect to the switch:

9600-8N1 Flow Control=None

If you have connection to the switch it's wise to fix the console setting to:

2524(config)# console baud-rate 9600

Hopefully it works.

Sietze.

Hi. I suggest
you can use modem to connect and config.
on the other hand, if console port is wrong, you have no modem.
you can use DHCP and make 2524 get ip address, and by toptools in network check ip address, and then you can telnet, web mode config.

Hi.

Once more, com port settings:

9600
8 databits
no parity
1 stop bit
no flow control

But, I'd suggest you check out Tera Term Pro;
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html

Freeware console/telnet client, which works.

HTH,
Arimo

Hi,

I have a similar problem.

I know it's not the terminal program that is the problem, or the cable I am using, as we have 15 of the same model switch and *some* of them respond to serial console, whereas others do not.

Have you been able to find a workaround? I have tried a few different ways to access the switch, but am unable to.

Regards,

Nige.

This is a chronical, know problem with almost all ProCurve switches. HP just needs to fix it. In the meantime the only real solution is to pull the power....

GG

@ Gonzo,

I would not say that this is a problem with all Procurve switches I have only seen it on the 2300 and 2500 series frequently and on the 4100 series sporadicly.

The problem is more likely to be Hyperterminal, because when I switch to TeraTermPro I have no problems whatsoever contacting the switches over the consoleport. And of course using the correct settings.

Regards,

SCOOTER

I agree with Scooter. I have seen the same with Nortel switches. Generally, I only console to the switch during initial setup and have always made is standard operating proceedure to spark up Hyperterm before powering up the switch. Once the switch is in service, I seldom if ever find a need to Hyperterm to it.
