The first thing I would check then is if MAC filtering is enabled on your LinkSys. Are you familiar with using the setup through a browser?
On my system I only allow 2 MACs addresses (my laptop and my girlfriends laptop) to connect to my router. This (helps) keep out people that may just be in the area with a wireless card.
If that doesn't work, let us know and we can go from there.

Jim
I have a lynksys wireless router. It says that the signal strenth is excellent, but when I click on the icon, it says that packets are sent but none received. The status is connected also it says.

Could you precise :
- What OS are you running ?
- on which icon you click ?
- what is beyond your router : Internet ? What is your configuration like ? The LAN ?
It would help me to check what's going on.

J

Jerome is right about needing more info to troubleshoot this.

Without knowing more I would check the following:
If the router is 802.11g and the card is 802.11b, make sure the router is set to run in mixed mode.
Make sure the router is set up to run as a router and not a gateway.
Check the router to be sure that you are either using MAC filtering, or if you are that you have added the MAC for the laptop.
These items are configured in your LinkSys setup: 192.168.1.1

Check your IP status on the laptop when connected:
Start > Run > type "cmd" > type "ipconfig"
See if your router is passing you an IP address and maybe the problem is outside of the router.

Router model? Is the notebook card integrated?

Jim

The router model is lynksys befw1154 it is an 802.11b wireless access point router. I am running win xp, and the icon that I am clicking on is the one to the left of the clock. I guess it is supposed to tell you that a wireless network connection is available, and it is.
Beyond the router is another lynksys router. The problem is that the other computer is able to connect but this on is not. The card is integrated. I can connect through the router if I attach the wire, but it will not work wirelessly. It will say the system strength is good then it says that it doesn't have a connection.

I am looking at the lynksys admin page and I don't understand where to start. I clicked on the Filters tab and see private mac filter and a settings button to the right. I clicked on the Mac addr. clone and see User Defined
WAN MAC Address. What do I need to input into these fields to get my laptop to work?

Is it a BEFW1154 or BEFW11S4? If it's the latter you can check your MAC filtering in the setup under the filters tab. To determine your MAC address you can use ipconfig from the command prompt. ipconfig /all
This may not be the issue, but it is a start. Did you set up the router? If you didn't enable MAC filtering it probably is off, mine was off by default. Page 36 of the manual for that model has good information on this.

Another item to check is under your setup tab, make sure that you have the same SSID settings on the Router and the laptops WLAN Monitor. Also, enable SSID broadcast just for the setup. Once you get things working, shut off the SSID broadcast.
I am having a similar problem with my ze4300. My router is BEFW11S4 with the following settings:
-SSID: broadcast
-WEP: off
-MAC filtering: off
-Channel: 6
-DHCP: on
-RTS Threshold: 2304
-Frag. Threshold: 2304
-Preamble: long
-Basic rates: 1-2-5.5-11 MBps
-Tx rates: 1-2-5.5-11 MBps
-Authentication type: both

My wireless network setting in XP home w/ internal wireless card (802.11g):
-Mixed mode: on (802.11b compatible)
-DHCP: on
-WEP: off
-Channel: 6
-RTS Threshold: 2304
-Frag. Threshold: 2304
-Preamble: short/long(Auto)

I get an excellent signal strength and the card sends out packets, just doesn't receive any. The machine even gets an IP assigned to it and that IP does get stored in the router's IP tables (found this out via the browser interface off a machine that is wired directly to the router). I am stumped - help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.
-Perplexed
