Newbie Wireless network Question

I am currently setting a wireless extention to our network and I have come to a dead end.

I have a HP420WL WAP connected to an HP2312 Switch the clients are HP nx9105 with built in Broadcom 54g wireless adaptors

I can connect and configure the WAP from a web browser on our network and I can get the wireless clients to connect to the WAP but I can not get a network connection from the client nor can I see (ping) the client from a workstation.

The WAP/Client/Workstation all have IP addressing that is compatable with our network, I have configured the WAP and Client arround the WAP Pre-shared Key ONLY setup as pre WAP420 guide the wireless network is visible and the client connects and stays connected but no network connection/internet can be seen. the log for the WAP says that connection to the mac address is made but 4-way handshaking fails.

the WAP Log gives the following message:

Jun 09 09:27:17 Information: WPA 4-way handshaking fails at

2 Jun 09 09:27:13 Notice: 802.11g:Station Reassociated:

3 Jun 09 09:27:13 Notice: 802.11g:Station Authenticated:

4 Jun 09 09:27:13 Notice: Successful Local MAC Address Authentication for station

I feel like I am missing something basic, any help, ideas or solutions would be appreciated.

Consider temporarily disableing your wireless security for test purposes only - it appears that you have MAC filtering enabled as well WPA encryption.

From the log messages I would suspect that your problem is the WPA, with which I have no personal experience.

Disable both, verify that you can ping in both directions, and then enable MAC filtering and again verify that you still have communication. Once you've completed these steps you should have an idea of where the system is locking you out and be able to focus your attention appropriately.

Attention should be paid to page 7.
I've installed that AP with WPA and MAC Filter and its running with a nx5000.

currently the top of the line is 802.1x, but not all cards support this. WPA is next, but it's still pretty weak and somewhat difficult (as you found) to configure. absolute minimum is static preshared keys, but again, very weak.

consider setting up a radius server on your windows network, and configuing your APs and cards for 802.1x, with the windows wireless config service. this is very stable at my company.
