The funny thing is when I read that chapter it makes perfect sense. But when I compare the Automatic HTTP Proxy screen in the manual has fields for Proxy Server and Proxy Port. Mine however only has Automatic (enabled or disabled) and Monitored ports. The proxy section is missing completely. Is this a problem with 4.1.93?

Jason

I follow the directions for setting up http proxy redirect on the 720 but the wireless tablet does not receive the proxy info. I am at firmware 4.1.93. Any help would be appreciated.

Jason

Actually it all works fine if I have the proxy set in IE on each client. But it doesn't work without it. Any ideas?

Jason

It doesn't sound like it's set quite right. Are you using an external proxy server or the built in proxy of the 720/740?

As you know, the proxy redirect will intercept traffic destined to a particular port and automatically proxy it without any changes to the client.

These things can obviously be difficult to configure, I'd recommend you contact your procurve rep about it to see if they can help, otherwise support may be able to assist in checking your config.

Before contacting support you should fill in this form as best as possible to save time - http://www.hp.com/rnd/support/support_forms/700wl.txt

That's right, it does not pass any proxy settings to the client.

It acts as a transparent proxy. It's main purpose is to give web access for clients that are not configured correctly. It's designed for guests that have come in and don't have the proxy settings configured correctly for your network.

Regular users should set the proxy in their web-browser settings, either manually or automatically using PAC or a group policy.

If all users were to rely on the proxy redirect, the 720wl's performance would eventually suffer as it has to intercept each and every packet on those monitored ports (e.g. 80:8080:3128)

That sounds about right. Read the Access Policies chapter of the Management and Configuration guide. There is a HTTP proxy example at the end of the chapter.

Also I'd recommend you update to the latest software 4.4.0.50, it has a few enhancements to the HTTP proxy feature.
