topic Obsolute router? in Communications and Wireless

I relaced my cable modem yesterday (purchased in 2000). I set up my network with an IPAQ Connection Point CP-2E in 2002. Yesterday after I registered new modem with cable company, they could detect my router and new modem. However, I cannot access internet through the router. Do I need to replace the router due to being to ancient or incompatible?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Linda

Hi
Your Compaq Connection Point CP-2E is a cable/DSL router with four-port Fast Ethernet Switch, so i assume you are using it as modem and router, in this case probably some configuration is missing.

Chech the configuration again and try to ping the ISP server from the router to check conectivity.

Linda,

It may be something as simple as a change in IP address. You may have to change the IP address designated for the modem in your router (I'm not sure what the configuration menus look like, but it may show up as your 'gateway'), or change it in the modem to match the old one (if not using DHCP). The router is definitely not obsolete - just a little configuration fine-tuning required.

Allan in Atlanta
