I've read several threads like this one but none so far has fixed my problem so I decided to create a new one.

Its simple the wireless switch is on and when windows starts it simlpy shows orange as disabled but the funny thing is that when you check your devices its not even listed. Try to add new hardware? wont work. Did some Restore points and worked 1 time. But after a restart came back to the same issue.

Does anyone have any idea on this one ?

I'm honestly about to burn this notebook. Sent email to HP support. No answer so far.

Hope I can find help here.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have a similar problem at the moment as well. I upgraded to Vista and the wireless device was working fine and then for some reason it stopped working to the point of not even showing up in device manager and the hp wireless assistant is only showing bluetooth now. The wireless is activated as in showing a blue light and the WLAN service is started. I tried extracting the wireless software and running setup again but no change in device manager. I have even flashed the bios (including going into the bios and selecting load setup defaults) and reinstalled the chip-set software. The Online help was pretty average but when I spoke to a guy on the phone yesterday he said that a few people were experiencing the same issue and that new drivers are going to be posted on the hp.com website within the next 10 days. So at the moment I am just checking the site to see if there is any change and will call back after the time has expired to get an update. I am not too sure how long you have had you computer but you could try and get in touch with HP on the phone. I hope this helps and that you get working again. Take care, cheers!

- Rich McNabb

1) Restart the computer and enter into Safe Mode.
2) Uninstall the wireless driver from Control Panel.
3) Goto Program Files in your C drive and look for the Broadcom folder and delete it. Make sure that you remove it from the Recycle Bin too. Also you should have the latest version of the driver. (Boardcom 4.100.15.5) The HP website has this available (sp34152.exe). [Get the driver downloaded on your computer before doing any of these steps] In the SWSetup folder there should be a folder named WLAN delete all the files in there and replace it (copy and paste) the Boardcom files that you downloaded.
3) Restart the computer and enter into Safe Mode again.
4) Reinstall the driver. Check in Device Manager to see if the driver is there. If not then restart the computer and enter in Safe Mode again. The computer should see the wireless driver now.
5) In the C:\ProgramFiles\Boardcom there would be several system and configuration files. Right click on each of them and make the files Read-Only and click OK. The computer is going to give you an error. Ignore it and click on Cancel. Go back to the properties and you will see that the files are now Read-Only. Also goto C:\Windows\system32\drivers and look for a file named bcmwl5.sys and right click on the file and goto properties and make that file Read-Only.
6) Restart the computer and enter the computer in normal mode. The wireless driver should be installed and in the device

IT'S THE BATTERY!!!!!!

I can prove it.

Follow my sequence of power-off, remove power tip, remove battery, fire-up. Wireless works.

Power-down, put back battery, power-up. Wireless works!

Power-down and next time you power-up the Wireless WON'T work!

Why? Because the motherboard has kept some memory status about the battery condition and for some reason won't apply power to the Wireless card.

This is why it takes a few months for it to stop working. Its something to do with the memory cells in the battery and some status saved on teh motherboard.

Another way to get it working.

Hit F10 at BIOS startup.

F9 to load factory defaults.

f10 to save them.

Power off.

Remove power tip and set the wireless swicth to On.

Fire up laptop on battery.

When blue light comes on then attach power tip.

I still believe its interaction between battery, motherboard and power tip.

Anyone know what info gets kept in flash memory of motherboard about battery. My battery checks-out at 100% but I stioll have this problem.

FOLLOWING THIS DIRECTION

Hey i just talked to a cust-serv. rep like 8 hours ago and they are too, shipping a box to do maintenance on thst problem, same description and it's the same scenario, wondering if they are gonna have to do a recall, jaja... I'll try the power tip way but it won't do it for me since i have to move around with the puter alot.

you might corroborate the battery theory, download the hp battery check utility, mine says that the status of MY battery is : REPLACE, jaja, so if Angel is right it might be a nce way to check...

peace out...

-Gahiel

The same thing with my dv6155eu. It also started about 6 month after buying it. Worked with the laptop without powertip until less than 10% of battery power was available. Then I´ve put it back to the desktop and connected the power tip. The next morning WLAN was gone.

Also tried everything. It came back once after hybernate - but after a few hours it was unavailable again.

Starting without battery does not help in my case either does the whole safe-mode-boot thing. Also tried bios update, driver reinstall - everything I found anywhere in the web.

Ugly thing.

This is a well documented prob with this series of notebooks and if you do a search on the Internet you'll find lots and lots of unhappy and frustrated people. None of the fixes work and HP tech support is absolutely horrendous. I have wasted hours and hours troubleshooting this issue and dealing with HP's inept tech support to no avail. Replacing the WLAN card and MoBo do not even solve the issue. In addition, there are other well documented issues (Displays going black, continuous beeping noises, not starting, etc) that will most likely crop up over a short period of time from what I've researched. Unfortunately, these notebooks are crap and HP is doing nothing to recall/replace them. Even folks who's notebooks are still under warranty are having huge issues resolving this issue with HP. My warranty expired on my DV6000 a few weeks ago so now I am screwed and stuck with a 13 month old notebook that doesn't work correctly and will most likely have serious additional issues in the near future. I totally regret buying this pc and realize now that I've wasted a lot of money. Along with everyone else who bought this series of notebooks I am extremely dissatisfied with the product and HPâ s lack of support to itâ s customers.

________________________________________
I know the feeling.I have just spent all week trying to fix the same problem with my new DV6152EU.
I have just solved the problem with the adapter and i have restarted the laptop ten times and it is now finding the Broadcom 802.11 wireless WLAN everytime.
My solution is as follows:
Insert the battery with power off.Turn laptop on and allow to start normally.Once fully loaded up,select shutdown from start menu.Remove power and then the battery.
IMPORTANT STEP AS FOLLOWS:
Leave mains power switched off and keep the battery out of the laptop.Press and hold in the POWER ON switch on the laptop for 20 seconds and then release.
Plug the laptop to the mains socket with battery still left out and power up as normal. The adapter should now be visible.
THE REASON:
The motherboard, battery and adapter are having an undiagnosed conflict as stated in another responce.Pressing and holding the POWER ON button with no external power source clears the motherboard and any internal power storing devices of their power, allowing the adapter to reset and work. This must be a problem with thousands of laptops made by HP and i was surprised that no information on patches or updated drivers are available for this particular fault as it has occured in many countries.
I really hope this helps all of you as i was going dizzy trying to cure this fault and the feeling of relief when it worked was immense.
HP dont seem to be responding as a few of you have stated, very very very poor assistance from them.Broadcom also are not blameless and both companies should get together and come up with a solution as laptops are designed to be mobile, but that isnt the case if the wireless function is faulty.
