Is your data centre an oldish facility thats just grown to 5000 servers, or is it purposed designed. If its 'grown', then the power problem might be further up the chain. If purpose designed, you have a chance of correcting the situation.

I'm working on a huge data center, 5000 servers, and I'm trying to reduce its electrical power consumption. Any ideas, any data about compaq servers and switches and their power consumption would be greatly appreciated

Servers are very well covered by our Rack Builder Pro software, not so sure about switches...

Rack Builder Pro

Since so many of our networking products are no longer supported by Compaq directly (sold off to other companies), I don't think I can provide a lot of help there. Might look over this site as a starting point though:

Networking Products
