I bought this Compaq CP-2W a few months ago and had nothing but problems since.

I have 4 hard wired PC's going to the router and my laptop. Every few hours the router gets all messed up and I need to unplug it and plug it back in.

These things should be replaced since there is a major defect.

I am a very knowledgabled computer technician and I never seen a router as screwed up as this one.

Search on the internet and you'll see nothing but problems with the CP-2W. I am going to write HP and tell them the defects I have found.

I'm trying to set up a web server using the iPAQ Connection Point CP-2W, but can't get it to work. I know what the Global Port is, but can someone better explain Local Port?

I have an Apache web server listening to port 77 (since my ISP blocks port 80) and running on local IP 192.168.1.69. Whenever I put in http://192.168.1.69:77, it works. But then I put in my Internet (Global) IP (e.g. http://123.456.7.8:77), I get nothing. Here're my settings under Virtual Server:

Server Status: enabled
Global Port: 77
Local IP: 192.168.1.69
Local Port: 77
Protocol: TCP

Am I setting the local port correctly? What else could I be doing wrong?

FYI, my web server works fine with my Linksys BEFSR41 using port 77.

I am having the same problem, except on port 80 (which my ISP does not block). It works fine in all configurations without the CP-2W.

The local port is the port your Apache is listening on, and the global port is the port that clients attempt to connect to. The CP-2W should receive on the globa port and forward the packet to your local machine on the local port. At least it would if it worked.

I can confirm the same problem, with other applications, including Radmin and SmartFTP, listening on other ports.

All applications worked before, when using a DSL modem and ZoneAlarm as a firewall.'

I'd be very interested to hear any resolution to this (major) problem.

Make sure you disable port filtering in addition to setting up vertual server for the ports in question.

I have an FTP server up and running without any problems.

Hello, I have the same problem. I think the real problem is if you set up the virtual server in your CP you are telling that all packages from the outside to the port 80 (or whatever) are redirected to one pc from the local LAN (example: 10.10.1.2) but what happens when one PC from your local LAN tries to reach your outside IP (example: 200.54.67.18) I think the router doesn??t send the package to the outside and try to enter by the port that is configured with PAT (Port adress translation), the router send the package by the inside LAN by an inside port that is not configured for using PAT so the package can't find the correct PC in the correct port.

I am right? I think that is a serious problem...firmware solution?
My only complaint against the CP2w is the vanishing admin pages. I have ports forwarded to computers here with no problem. i have been able to host an http server and frogcam (aquatic frogs) with a few friends logging in to view it. The destination was an IP address on the wireless side of the network. I'm about to see how it works on the wired side.

Lately i've also noticed the power level dropping significantly. I'm guessing something new is interfering with my signal causing my previous excellent signal to now report low or very low. Any other possible culprits?

My ISP does block any ports and the virtual server does not work for port 80, 25, 110

Don't wan't to use the DMZ function since they say your system is no longer protected it kind of defeats the purpose.

Thanks to all those who added their comments so I know I'm not going insaine

Hi All, I have Bigpond ADSL and have been using a Compaq Connection Point CP-2w. Has been fine except that I haven't been able to browse to some websites. Palm.com for example. What do I care, so long as email and google work, I was happy.

A few weeks ago one of my biggest clients moved servers to a new IP address 202.177.214.130. No prizes for guessing, I cant browse to it. *sigh*

I replace the Connection Point with a PC running windows XP sharing the internet connection, voila, it works fine. Take the XP box out of the network and put the Connection point back in. Hey presto, cant browse to that address again. Argghh!!

Only difference I can see is that the XP PC has a dns suffix and the Connection Point doesn't have a setting for this.

Network is pretty simple. Two PC's on ethernet, one wireless laptop. This is really annoying. If someone can resolve the issue, I would be delighted as while the XP system as the router works, it means I have to work in the same room as the XP desktop instead of in the main room via wireless.

Have you guys seen anything like this ? Or have you all binned the cp-2w now ?

Thanks
David

The port forwarding on my CP-2W also does not work. I also have a d-link that forwards fine when put it in the CP-2W's place. At first it wouldn't even get a WAN ip from my cable modem, so I got the latest firmware and then that worked. But I still have the port forwarding issue even with the latest firmware. It works fine as an access point, but thats not what I need it for.
