HI,

I want to install a PCI-X raid card that does raid 5 in this machine. Does any one know the part number of the card that will work? I tried a P600 it lets me set up the raid but HPUX will not see the drives. I think this card is just for windows.

The raid card has to have a SAS connector on it for the existing cables to work.

Thank you
Jon

Hi Jon,

The Quickspecs state that the P400 should do what you need under HP-UX, but it is PCIe:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12698_div/12698_div.HTML

The P600 is PCI-X:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/smartarrayp400/index.html

HP-UX I/O Matrix:

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02067008/c02067008.pdf

Rgds,

You don't mention whether it's internal drives or external drives that you need to connect Jon.
On the assumption (which may be wildly inaccurate) that it's internal drives, you could also perhaps try the AD248A or whatever the aftermarket equiv. is.
Same still holds as my previous comment though - make sure that you get and use the battery backed cache or performance can be very poor.

Steve

I don't expect it to work in the card cage as all of the references to this card (including the installation guide, if I remember rightly) say to use the dedicated slot that's built onto the main logic board.

Remember that battery backed cache too, otherwise you'll have problems...

I can setup my drives I have installed fine on the raid card. But when I boot to the OS install dvd it does not show any drives. Any suggestions?

Thank you
Jon

Perhaps something to do with HBA vs RAID mode and a need to run saupdate? This:

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02540772〈=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=4186428&prodTypeId=3709945&printver=true

discusses the i2 Blades, but if this is a newly purchase p400, especially if it was purchased as other than the expected bundle to go into the motherboard PCIe slot, perhaps it has the newer firmware. (Although I cannot recall if the i2 blades have p400s or p410s).

It might be good to fire-up the support contract and get some help from the Response Center.
