Hi Naveen,

I'm not sure if this is related to your Problem, but your servers firmware is ver old.

current is:

rx4640
System 03.17,
BMC 03.49
iLO MP E.03.15 Firmware

Go to www.hp.com Software and drivers and search for rx4640. You will find an ISO image (version 3.17). Follow the instructions.

I guess if you remove the msa, your server will boot. If not, the system logs have to be analyzed.

We have an rx4640 running hpux 11i v2. We are trying to connect a MSA1000 storage direct attach mode.

I upgraded the latest msa firmware using a proliant server, configured the storage volumes. the moment I hooked the MSA storage to the server, the server rebooted.

Since then, the server failed to restart. IT comes upto starting the EFI and then it resets. The error that I am getting is attached.

Kindly let me know if anyone has faced this problem before. Right now the server is in a loop and it keeps resetting...

Any clue ??

Thanks and best regards,

NAveen

EFI version 1.10 [14.61]
EFI64 Running on Intel(R) Itanium Processor Family
EFI 1.10 IPF server rx4640 2.10 [Tue Sep 30 14:14:27 2003] - HP

Copyright (c) 2000-2003 Broadcom Corporation
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet EFI driver v6.1.3

Loading 'FPSWA'...
2 0 0x00020B 0x0000000000000006 EFI Launching Boot Manager
Scsi(Pun0,Lun0) HP 73.4GMAS3735NC       HPC3 (160 MBytes/sec)
Scsi(Pun1,Lun0) HP 73.4GMAS3735NC       HPC3 (160 MBytes/sec)
HP 2Gb Fibre Channel Combo Adapter (driver 1.30, firmware 3.02.168)
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5703) is detected (PCI-X)
2 0 0x000285 0x0000000000000000 SAL_CHECK Initialized Store
7 0 0x000098 0x000000000000000B Machine Check initiated
2 0 0x0002A1 0x20000000FFF21120 Processor PSP
2 0 0x000115 0x0000000000000000 MCA: Uncorrected Machine Check
3 0 0x000107 0x0000000000000000 OS MCA address not registered
***********************************************************
* ROM Version : 02.13
* ROM Date    : 03/22/2004
* BMC Version :  02.37
***********************************************************
Hi,

Which MSA controller firmware you have ? ( after upgrading ?)
What's the system and iLO firmware versions you have?

There was a situtation when in order to use MSA1000 with HP-UX, there is an alternative firmware for MSA1000 controller that exclusively supports the HP-UX operating system. This alternative firmware supports HP-UX only and is not supported for use with any other operating system.

But Now the latest standard firmware v4.48 is common firmware for all supported OS including HP-UX.
Refer the following doc
http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000081542715

The HP-UX support for MSA1000 was added in April,2004. It would require upgrade of system,BMC, iLO firmwares as well to the latest.

In your current case , just disconnect the MSA and your system should work normal and check for firmware compatibility.

The system is rebooting on account of MCA ( Machine Check Abort ) .
