topic Multiple MPs in Integrity Servers

Hi All,

In the cell based servers like rx8620 we have more than one MP present in the complex. In such case whether all of the MPs will be configured ? and can we access any of the MP to check the server status/log etc.

Thanks in advance,

Bond.

Hi bond,

Maybe you should read the installation manuals first before you ask this question.
If you want to acces a mp from remote you must configure it.
Also you need an ip-adres and cable for that.
see the installation description found in this link.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?〈=en&cc=us&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=120756&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=51400〈=en&cc=us

grtz.
Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply.

I know how to configure the MP and access, my doubt was, when we have multiple MPs in same cabinet which one has to be configured ? Is is possible to configure all MPs and login to any of the MP to monitor the server ?

Bond.

Hi bond,

If you have 2 mp one is the Master second is the slave.
You can configure them both but then you need separete ip-adress. Then you can acces them both to see logs. But only the master can do things like TOC as far as i know.
When the master is failing the slave will become master so you still can work with the console.

grtz.
Hi Bond,

When the server is configured for two partitions, it must contain two core I/O boards, one for each partition. It will also contain two MPs. In this case, the MP in slot 0 is the master MP and provides all of the server management functions. The MP on the core I/O board in slot 1 is a slave MP and redirects the operating system gettys to the master MP over an internal MP-to-MP link. All external connections to the MP must be to the master MP in slot 0.

Check this urls.

http://docs.hp.com/en/A6434-96013/A6434-96013.pdf

http://docs.hp.com/en/A7027-96013/ch02s03.html

Hope this Helps,

Siva.

Also it is important to note that the Master/slave failover is disabled in the latest firmware.

The MP LAN speed needs to be at 10Mbps, half-duplex. The switch port needs to be set similarly. There were many problems due to the MP failover feature and hence it has been disabled.

In rx7620 MP1 is the master MP, in rx8620 MP0 is the master MP.In rx8620 the MP and Core I/O functions are on the same card, therefore 2 different partitions should have their own core I/O from 2 different MP+core I/O card.

With regards,
Mohan.
