    <description>&lt;P&gt;So the Smart Array will discover the missing drive and rebuild it back into the RAID config? Is the spare then returned to spare status automatically?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The link above is for a Proliant.&lt;BR /&gt;Would I have to run &lt;STRONG&gt;saconfig&lt;/STRONG&gt; on HP-UX or just &lt;STRONG&gt;sautil&lt;/STRONG&gt; to monitor the status?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <title>Smart array p410 testing</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Part of acceptance testing is to prove that the Smart array controller will handle a failed drive. The only way I know how to fail a drive is to pull it out. However I've been told that the disk serial number is stored in the controller and marked bad, which prevents the disk from being returned to this controller.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Is there any way to clear the bad designation so the disk can be put back?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;Here the Drive would be marked as Failed and the reason would be maked as "Hot Plug Removed", and once the Drive is installed back to its Original position (if the Drive actual status is healthy), it would come Online.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>Wouldn't the street have started rebuild? Will the card automatically make the drive into a spare or do you have to run saconfig?</description>

      <description>&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;If the Drive is good, it would start rebuild once it is re-installed on the same location automatically without user interaction.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;If at all if there are any issues seen, we would have to check further.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;Spare Drive is a different Concept : you may refer the below link for more information.&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="margin: 0;"&gt;Like, when a data drive fails / removed, rebuild starts on the hot spare and once it is rebuilt completely it will be part of the Logical Drive. When the data drive is replaced with good Drive / re-inserted, this Drive will be rebuilt from the hot spare. Once completed hot spare will be available again.&lt;/P&gt;
