Hi,
We want to find a way to map the console ip to the OS ip which is running on the server. Plz let me know if there is way to find the console ip from the OS(HPUX).
Ideally we want to do a telnet to the OS ip and execute some command to find the console ip.

rgds,
Rajat

You cannot. You have to connect via serial port and have a look or configure.
Some models are using DHCP as default, the name is mp<MAC-ADDR>.</MAC-ADDR>

On Integrity servers, it is not possible to get to the MP from within HPUX OS. Even on PA-RISC servers except A,L,N class, it is not possible.

MP Lan console IP could be known if SNMP is enabled in MP, using SNMP server s/w ( e.g. HPSIM etc ) and knowing the MAC address of the MP ( which is stick on the chassis ).

However, I do feel that such provision needs to be provided and would be helpful in certain situations. As I understand, such provision would require enabling such access in MP firmware and creating device node in HPUX with password protection.

I guess HP don't provide such feature/access on account of security reason. But I think, since console funcationality is already enabled through LAN, Web then why not through HPUX OS root account with MP Admin password?

Similary, I think it would be good if the device name (ttyxpy) mapping to the concerned serial ports ( Local, remote , UPS , Aux ) is made standardised atleast based on the range/series of servers. I do understand it's depends on the Core IO used within the server, but in that case a customer note could be published to provide the information of these mapping in HPUX.

Hi,

It is totally depends on the server model. In earlier HP9000 Server like K,L and N class, we have the Guardisn Service Processor (GSP) Console. If this is your server model, you can access it, but the post is in Integrity Server section, i hope the server model is HP Integrity System, it has Managemnt Processor(MP).

Since the MP console is a separate section of the system, it is not possible to find the console ip from the running OS. The only way to know about the Console IP is connect to serial port and check the same.

HTH,

Surendar

How to assign KUDOS! Click the STAR!

HP Guided Troubleshooting - www.hp.com/support/hpgt

For most Integrity servers you can get the MP address from the system management homepage.

Current servers have a boot menu entry to set/get this address too.

In 11.31 you can also use the diagnostics:

# /opt/propplus/bin/cprop -summary -c "Management Processor"

BTW, the k-class never had a GSP ... ;-)
