none of those really showed a clear picture of PA-Risc compared to Itanium HP used to have a matrix that showed the PA-Risc performance as you grew in CPUs and they started to add Itanium when they first came out. Does that matrix still exist somewhere

Does anyone know of a fairly up to date performance doc that would show me how 1.3 and 1.5GHz Itanium procs compare to 875MHz PA-Risc procs
Many Thanks

Hi,

Check out the independent TPC at:

http://www.tpc.org/tpcc/default.asp

You can compare systems on performance.

Gideon

I appreciate it but that location really did not have anything on PA-Risc and it appears they just compared max'ed out system and you can't tell what a 4 CPU PA rics does compared to a 4 CPU Itanium surely HP has to have something like this

Actually, there are some PA-RISC TPC-C numbers at www.tpc.org - the Superdomes without "Integrity" in their names as it were...

Other places to look for performance numbers would include http://www.spec.org/ where you should be able to find SPECcpu figures and SPECweb99_SSL figures for both Itanium2 and PA-RISC. Since you are talking about four-CPU systems, you might want to give preference to the "rate" metrics of SPECcpu2000. There may also be some SPECjbb and/or other SPEC benchmarks with numbers for both Itanium2 and PA-RISC.

If you follow some of the links from http://www.hp.com/go/itanium you may find some whitepapers with other performance metrics in them - particularly the ones for "technical computing" but also some of the ones for commercial.

Not database related, but this does give some interesting performance metrics for Itanium, PA-RISC, SPARC, IBM etc, plus the older generations of supercomputers.

http://www.dl.ac.uk/CFS/benchmarks/compchem.html
