Hi all,

I am unable to load RHEL AS 4.0 in rx7640. My installation completes successfully, but when i reboot i get:-
ELILO boot: Uncompressing Linux... done
Loading initrd initrd-2.6.9-5.EL.img...done
audit(1185269336.355:0): initialized
i8042.c: i8042 controller self test timeout.
Red Hat nash version 4.1.18 starting
mkrootdev: label / not found
mount: missing mount point
mount: error 2 mounting none
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

My server is completely headless. I have no ports for keyboard, mouse or monitor. I have tried with three partitions as below:-
/efi/boot - type vfat - 100 MB
/ - type ext3 - 20 GB
swap - 32 GB ( I have 16 GB RAM)

I tried "linux rescue" from the ELILO Boot: prompt, but I land into the same kernel panic.

What could be the way out

Did you start with HP Integrity Essentials Foundation Pack for Linux Smart Setup CD?

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1844075&prodNameId=1844076&swEnvOID=2079&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ux-22935-7

Have the same problem after installing RHEL AS 4.0 on an rx3600.

The SCSI modules were missing from my
'initrd' RAM disc image: causing failures to
access a root device.

From "linux rescue" I tried 'mkinitrd', but
this only generated a small image, without any SCSI modules.

'mkinitrd' is a script which uses the 'awk' command to generate lists of modules - the 'awk'/'gawk' binary is
corrupt in my installation.

Check if the 'awk' on your new
system is working..
