Cannot get Console Menu - Itanium Server

Hi,

I connected Serial Port of Itanium server to Serial Port of Laptop.

I powerred on the server.

I opened Hyperterminal & created a new connection with following settings:

Port = COM1
bits per second = 9600
Flow control = none
Data Bits = 8 ( default )
Parity = None ( default )
Stop bits = 1 ( default )

I am not able to get Console Menu screen.

Any idea how to solve this?

There are so many different servers with so many ports ...

What model we are talking about?

You need to set the active input/output/error device within the EFI menu.

HP Server rx2600

This has no "Console/Remote/UPS"(25-pin socket) at the rear of the server.
It has only 2 Serial Ports available.

This means there is no MP.
IMHO the MP was default for rx2600 - where is it?

Anyway, connect the cable to the port labeled "console". I guess your default console setting is currently VGA.

The procedure is the same, but the MP card was IMHO optional for this system.

Anyway, if you need remote management capabilities, consider to install a MP card, see

*IF* this model does have a management port then you likely have the wrong cable. The most common serial cable is a straight-through or modem cable and will not work. You must use a serial printer or crossover cable, sometimes called a null-modem cable.

Hi,

Sorry to bring this up again. This server has no Management Port(i,e: rx2620 ). It has 2 serial ports.

I am trying to get the Console Menu through Hyperterminal. I am not getting any response from server?.

What else should I check?

Your cable would be my first guess. I had the same problem, but I happened to have a digi portserver I was able to plug into.

Do you have a null cable?
